NICKY HOLLOWAY DJ LEGEND! (UK)

HOUSE, CLASSIC HOUSE & RETRO IBIZA / BALEARIC

Well what can we say about this man that hasn't already been said a million times before other than we are very proud to have a true dance music legend aboard. Nicky, along with Paul Oakenfold and Pete Tong was one of the founding fathers of the UK dance scene, and exporter of the new Ibiza sound to an unsuspecting and mainly grateful world. 15 years on and most of what we know as the dance scene today has been built on the foundations of the vision, perspiration and liberty-taking of these few. Rumour has it they had quite a good time in the process too!

With roots in the mid 80's soul and warehouse scene Nicky's incredible DJ journey from the DOO AT THE ZOO'S and SPECIAL BRANCH parties to the championing of the Balearic sound and Ibiza scene through to the opening of his legendary parties and clubs THE MILK BAR, TRIP, SIN, MARS, VELVET UNDERGROUND in London and Ibiza and involvement in all manner of apects of the scene and industry over the years have been well documented in the many books on the history of house.

These days Nicky Holloway may be wiser, more reflective and more vertical than back in the heady days of Ibiza superclubbing and UK Acid House, but the hunger for playing great dance music is still there, along with the performance talent that has headlined thousands of events over the years and that amazing record collection stretching across 25 years of dance music. This is the man that turned EuroDisney into rave central in 1993, toured Spain, Australia, New Zealand, France, Holland, Belgium, Ireland, America, Argentina, Russia, Egypt, Greece, The Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, China, Dubai, Bahrain, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Portugal, Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brazil, Denmark, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Scotland & Kosovo while most of us were still trying to find a party somewhere off the M25!

The first BBC Radio 1 Ibiza Essential Mix came from none other than - yep you guessed it (1995 Privilege) - click HERE for the Radio 1 Ibiza story

Nickys' early production credits include Beats Workin - Everyway But Loose, Titty Twister - Pussy Blowout, Holloway & Co.- Voyager, Holloway & Co.- I'll Do Anything To Make You Mine (Incredible), Sir Real - Spirits High (White Label),NWA vs. Oasis - Wonderwall (White Label), Beats Workin - Don't Keep Me Waiting (White Label), Velvet Underpants - Where Is My Man (SL2), Beats Workin - Burn Out Don't Fade Away (FFRR), Beats Workin - Sure Beats Workin (FFRR). Nicky freely admits his increasing passion for his writing, producing and remixing, with several projects always on the go (recent customers include Jon Legend, Carl Cox and Gilles Peterson), is now taking up valuable DJ time. Nevertheless he still finds time for a London residency at the immense GUILTY PLEASURES events at KOKO (Camden Palace), celebrity parties (including recently for for Jack & Kelly Osborne) and his regulr international forays always generate the same buzz and fab welcome from fans the world over each time he rekindles the legend that is Nicky Holloway!

JOYCE MERCEDES SPACE TOUR (NL)

THE NO 1 FEMALE PROGRESSIVE HOUSE DJ

Joyce Mercedes’ star has been rising fast the last few years. After successful performances at Dance Valley & Impulz festivals her musical career has lifted in the Netherlands evolving into a DJ of great stature with a busy agenda speaks for itself, regularly visiting several continents in one month and each weekend traveling from her hometown of Amsterdam to the cornes of the globe, racking up more than 20 different countries just in the first 6 months of 2005.  Joyce is exceptionally talented and is considered possibly the best female progressive house DJ in the world - we can't argue with that, her mixing and selection is some of the very finest in the style we have heard here at Sparkle and she has righly shared centre stage with the big guns; Sasha, Anthony Pappa, James Holden, Paul van Dyk, Chris Fortier & Derrick May.

Her flawless choice of records shows a nose for a quality tune and her exceptional mix technique takes the dance floor from easy and accessible vocal harmonies through deep and funky foot food to deep, trippy and hypnotic beats, soaring to stunning prog trance monsters - a spectacular set that evidences a diverse musical vocabulary.

From her birthplace in Nijmegen Joyce began work as a dancer for leading organizations Pantera and Extension, later moving to Amsterdam and performing with her dance colleagueon the Strycker & Holmes World Tour a sparkling dance show in some of the most famous clubs in the World. Her passion for music lies in her dancing as well as her singing. In the not to distant past Joyce was part of “Centerfold”, the group that sang in 1998 to a sold out Amsterdam Arena during half time of the classic football game Ajax-PSV Eindhoven . “Centerfold” also added lustre to the 15th year anniversary of Playboy anf Joyce worked regularly as a model, featuring in campaigns for Heineken, Campari, Gap-Star and Playboy.

Not being content with success in two fields Joyces passion for music drove her to invest in truntables and master the art of mixing. Her first performance before an audience took place in sunny Miami at a private party and very soon word spread and the bookings started to roll in, culminating in a DJ residency at the well known Amsterdam Superclub and a 2-year tour with Ibiza's Space World Tour to crown it all off.  At this moment Joyce has performed in almost every major club in mainland Europe, North and South America as well as many in the Far East.

Her striving for success has naturally led her into the recording studio to produce her own music, which will finally bear fruit this year with a 12" erelease imminent, though Joyce admits that she struggles to fit in production time around her busy live schedule.   If it's anywhere near as good as her live sets it will be worth the wait!

LISA GERMAN (UK)

TRIBAL, TECHY, DIRTY HOUSE

Lisa German - now there's a name everyone in dance music knows. With a technical ability as a DJ second to none and a record box full of surprises, she's gained a reputation as one of the scene's true professionals as clubbers from DTPM to The Gallery will happily testify.

Lisa's high dive into the world of DJ'ing started on the Man(Mad)chester scene, with clubs like The Hacienda and The Brickhouse joining the No. 1 as a regular haunt for her and long time friend Lazy Gee who now sings on Lisa's recent single, 'Let It Go'. Next stop, the USA where Lisa travelled extensively, returning to England, she headed South to London snd found herself at the legendary FF Sunday night session at Turnmills and then Trade including an introduction to Laurence Malice, getting her first big break in the Test Lounge and quickly impressed.

An offer to cover for Pete Wardman in the main room soon followed where her chunky, percussive sound fitted perfectly into the early part of the night. "It was Steve Thomas and Malcolm Duffy who were the big influences on me then. Really dirty house but also funky. Although it wasn't really my thing, I would play the harder stuff at the end of the night too - I wasn't going to blow it when I was given a chance to play back then."  Lisa also earned a reputation on the pre club London circuit during this time until her next big break in October 1999 when Fabric opened its doors. DTPM, London's Sunday night polysexual extravaganza, was moving there and promoter Lee Freeman gave her a birthday guest slot in Room 2 - she ended up going back nearly every week and soon became a resident.

Next up came Home where Lisa's warmed up at Deep South, Steve Lawler's Friday night tribal workout, playing alongside the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells and Futureshock, and Home subsequently invited her to play at the 2000 opening and closing Sunday night parties at Space in Ibiza. A residency at Gatecrasher in Sheffield followed and she was soon playing four-hour sets of tribal, techy beats both in Sheffield and London's Heaven leading to plenty of overseas action: Centro in Singapore, a year long residency at Club Q in Zurich, and bookingsin France, Poland, Romania and Peru. Back in London you can still find Lisa at DTPM every Sunday and she's recently rocked crowds at The Gallery, Going Places and Renaissance, as well as playing at smaller nights like Smack and French Kiss, hosting a radio show for Trust The DJ and passing on her skills teaching young DJs at the Sub Bass DJ Academy - not surprisingly, DJ magazine tipped Lisa as one of their 'shooting stars' for 2003.

Lisa is a firm fave on the gay circuit too - fulfilling a lifelong ambition by playing a four hour peak time set in Australia to a crowd of 7000 partygoers for the 2004 Sydney Mardi Gras, before headlining the following night at Home nightclub in Darling Harbour. The message boards set up for Mardis Gras were jammed the next few days with messages of praise for Lisa's "innovative and exciting" first time performance. Such was the buzz that she has been invited to this years event making her the first International DJ ever to be asked to return.

Following her initial forays into the studio, Lisa is now poised to make a serious production impact. Her recent single on Wallop Recordings, 'Let It Go' featuring vocals by Lazy Gee, received widespread support with DJ magazine commenting, "A great track for Lisa in what should by rights be her year." Next up is 'People Say' by Dirty Northern Scoundrels, again on Wallop and a collaboration with label founder Lee Morrison. You can also expect to hear more breakbeat and electro-oriented material at some stage under the "Bloody Mary" moniker.   This is one fab DJ who certainly isn't going to lose her head!

From his first live performances 5 years ago aT free underground parties Chris was hooked, and has vigorously pursued his dream career ever since.
